Why OFW Resumes Are Different
When applying for jobs abroad, your resume needs to meet international standards. Many overseas employers, especially in the Middle East, Europe, and North America, have specific expectations that differ from local Philippine formats.
1. Use a Clean, International Format
Avoid fancy designs. Use a simple, professional layout with clear sections. Most international recruiters prefer a straightforward, easy-to-read format.
2. Include a Professional Photo (When Required)
For Middle Eastern countries, a passport-sized photo is often required. For Western countries, photos are typically not included. Research the destination country's norms.
3. Highlight Relevant Certifications
Include TESDA certificates, NCII credentials, and any international certifications. These are highly valued by overseas employers.
- TESDA National Certificates (NC II, NC III)
- POEA-required certifications
- Language proficiency certificates (IELTS, TOEFL)
4. Emphasize Language Skills
Filipinos are known for excellent English skills. Highlight your proficiency in English and any other languages you speak.
5. Include Complete Contact Information
Provide multiple contact methods: Philippine mobile number (with country code +63), email address, and Viber/WhatsApp if available.
6. Detail Your Work Experience Clearly
Use the format: Job Title, Company Name, Location, Dates. Focus on achievements and responsibilities that are relevant to the job you're applying for.
7. Be Honest About Your Experience
Overseas employers verify credentials carefully. Never exaggerate or falsify information as this can lead to immediate deportation and blacklisting.
